Batavia Bicycle Commission on Facebook

from Batavia Bicycle Commission Link to FB

Where to ride When headed out for a bicycle ride, it is important to know where you are allowed to ride your bike. In the city of Batavia, bicycles are not allowed to be ridden on sidewalks throughout downtown. Sidewalks are designed for pedestrians and pedestrians have the right of way when present. While not specifically prohibited, neighborhood sidewalks are too narrow for bicycle traffic, especially in the presence of pedestrians. When riding your bicycle on the road, a cyclist must always ride in the same direction as traffic. It is illegal and dangerous to ride into oncoming traffic. Cyclists may ride 2 abreast as long as they do not impede the flow of traffic. When riding on the road, be predictable – don’t swerve, stop abruptly, or make other unexpected moves. When motorists know what to expect from cyclists, we can all travel safely. #BikeBatavia, #BikeSafety, #ShareTheRoad
